When considering private education, families frequently ask questions about the student experience. What does the school offer, academically and socially? Is it the best place for my child’s interests and abilities? Will my family feel welcome?

Tuition Information
Affording private education at Keystone School
Keystone School makes exceptional private education more accessible to bright and motivated students in San Antonio. Our overhead costs are 40% lower than the average independent school in our region, keeping tuition affordable for our families.
Keystone will not participate in the Texas Education Freedom Savings Account program for the 2026-2027 school year.
We plan to observe how the program is executed next year, gather data from those schools that are taking part in the program, and make a decision whether to participate or not for the following year.
We intend to continue to offer generous tuition assistance to students who are accepted to Keystone in grades K-12 whose families cannot afford to pay the full amount.
The Tuition Assistance Program enables us to enroll and re-enroll qualified students in kindergarten through twelfth grade whose families cannot pay full tuition costs. We are committed to providing tuition assistance, bringing the K-12 private academy cost within reach for more families in San Antonio.
All families anticipating the need for assistance are encouraged to apply. Tuition assistance decisions do not adversely affect a student’s opportunity for admission or re-enrollment. Socio-economic diversity is a traditional aspect of the Keystone School community.
- Currently enrolled students receiving tuition assistance whose families demonstrate the need for tuition assistance and submit applications by March 15.
- New students and returning students whose families demonstrate the need for tuition assistance and submit applications after March 15.
- Financial need is demonstrated by the family’s tuition assistance application, tax returns, and additional available financial information.
- In the case of divorce or separation, both parents are required to file an application for tuition assistance. Keystone School is not bound by any divorce agreement specifying a parent’s responsibility for educational expenses as we consider all parents to share responsibility for the child’s education. If a parent chooses not to work, we may impute an annual income for the non-working parent depending on family circumstances.
- Assistance amounts are restricted by school funds allocated for the Tuition Assistance Program.
- The Tuition Assistance Committee receives the tuition application packet and assesses a family’s need for financial assistance. The Committee makes their recommendations to the Head of School.
Upon approval from the Head of School, Keystone notifies the families of offers for tuition assistance. Recipients have two weeks to notify the school of their acceptance of the offer.

Keystone School encourages families to begin the application process as soon as possible.
Applicants to the Little School, Kindergarten and 9th Grade are notified in late January. We have rolling admissions for all other grade levels depending on the availability of class spots.

Our process
Keystone conducts a holistic and in-depth review of each applicant. This comprehensive evaluation takes into consideration teacher recommendations, school records, standardized test scores, and a classroom visit or interview.
We take great care to ensure that admitted students and Keystone School are well matched.
- Preschool
Preschool applicants under consideration receive an invitation for a playdate where they will be observed for social emotional skills and school readiness.
- Kindergarten
Applicants participate in an observation assessment on the school campus at the end of January. - First through fourth grade
Applicants participate in an on-campus academic assessment. Select applications are invited back for a half-day classroom visit based on the results of the assessment.
- Middle School
Middle School applicants are scheduled for a full-day visit and an interview with the Assistant Head of Middle School during this time. - Upper School
Upper School applicants are scheduled for a full-day visit and an interview with the Head of Upper School during this time.
Grades K-4
Applicants are required to take a readiness and ability test.
The Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test-Second Edition (KBIT-2) is the required test if an applicant has not had a more comprehensive evaluation administered by a licensed psychologist or by their current school.
The KBIT-2 is a brief, standardized measure of verbal (crystallized) and nonverbal (fluid) intelligence that yields Verbal, Nonverbal and IQ Composite scores. The three subtests of the KBIT-2 include Verbal Knowledge, Matrices, and Riddles. It takes from 15 to 50 minutes total to administer the tests.
Information to register for the test is sent out during the admissions process.
Results should be sent to Keystone no later
than the first week of January for Kindergarten applicants. For grades 2-4, scores must be submitted as soon as possible as long as there is room in that grade level.
Grades 5-12
Applicants are required to take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE).This test is offered in over 30 metropolitan areas across the country.
The list of testing dates and locations is found on the ISEE Guide available through Keystone School or online at www.iseetest.org.
The ISEE may be taken only once within a six-month period.
Results should be sent to Keystone no later than
the last week of January for 9th grade applicants. For grades 5 through 8 and 10 through 12, scores need to be submitted as soon as possible as long as there is room in that grade level.
