Third graders this week had a rare treat and talked with author Jewell Parker Rhodes via Skype. She’s the author of a third-grade favorite Sugar, about a little girl who was a slave finding her freedom.

Mrs. Steward recounted that the author delivered an inspirational conversation that included discussing her writing process, how she comes up with new book ideas, and her path to becoming an author.
